Pop star Demi Lovato has long had a somewhat public problem with drug addiction. Just this past June, the singer gave fans a glimpse into her personal life with the song “Sober.” In the song, she details how she relapsed from six years of sobriety, apologizing to her friends, family, and fans, but most importantly herself.
In hindsight, it seems like a premonition. Just yesterday, Lovato was hospitalized following what insofar has been reported as a drug overdose. According to CNN, the Los Angeles Fire Department confirmed that it received a call at 11:22 a.m. for a medical emergency, and transported a 25-year-old woman to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in LA.
Reports have emerged that she was treated on-site with Narcan, an emergency medication used to reverse an opioid overdose, by the people she was with at the time of overdose. This has led to reports that she specifically suffered a heroin overdose, but a source close to Lovato has denied such reports.
Thankfully, a source told People magazine later yesterday that Lovato is “okay and stable,” and a representative for Lovato confirmed that the singer is awake. “Demi is awake and with her family who want to express thanks to everyone for the love, prayers, and support.”
However, according to the representative’s statement, “some of the information being reported is incorrect and [her and her family] respectfully ask for privacy and not speculation as her health and recovery is the most important thing right now.”
