Fresh off a tour opening for Paramore and Foster the People, Nashville native Soccer Mommy continues on her touring circuit for her Fat Possum debut album, Clean. In addition to her own headlining shows, Soccer Mommy will be opening for Kacey Musgraves for part of her tour as well as for Stephen Malkmus & the Jinks and SASAMI. The singer-songwriter has been posting her music to Bandcamp as Soccer Mommy since 2015 where she gained a strong gathering. Her musical roots stem much deeper, all the way to the age of six when she first picked up a guitar and began writing music.
Soccer Mommy, the project of 21-year-old Sophie Allison, has released two albums before her Fat Possum debut, For Young Hearts and Collection. Soccer Mommy’s blend of pop and lo-fi delivers tunes that groove whether it’s the edgy vibe of “Your Dog” or the slow burn of “Scorpio Rising.” On representing female artists from Nashville, Soccer Mommy told Harpers Bazaar, “I try to represent it well. I’ve always wanted to do stuff to help encourage more women to play, whether it’s booking women on my shows at home, even when I was just playing DIY shows or booking benefit shows and having all women play.” With opening sets in the past for ground breaking female artists like Mitski, Phoebe Bridges, and Liz Phair under her belt in addition to Paramore and Kacey Musgraves mentioned previously, it’s clear Soccer Mommy is in good company.
