As reported by Spin, neo-soul/alternative R&B group The Internet has released a new music video for the song “La Di Da,” which comes of their recently-released album Hive Mind. The music video features candid footage of the band hanging out on tour, giving a glimpse of their personalities and chemistry while not on stage. Lead singer Syd lip-syncs the smooth vocals of the song as the band plays around and just generally has a good time. Eventually, the scene shifts to the band in a dimly lit room with neon lights backing them while playing to the song before abruptly fading out. A few seconds later, the camera opens to Syd lip-synching to another song from Hive Mind, “Wanna Be,” while looking directly into the camera.
Musically speaking, the song continues the band’s elegant fusion of swaggering funk, stomping soul, and slick hip-hop. Riding a wah-wah guitar line and a jazzy bassline, the song is totally infectious and upbeat. The interplay between Syd’s soaring vocals and Matt Martians’ slick chorus lines is incredible to behold.
This is the third music video to come out in support of Hive Mind, following “Roll (Burbank Funk)” and “Come Over.” Hive Mind is the first release from The Internet since 2015’s incredible Ego Death.
Odd Future members Syd and Matt Martians formed The Internet back in 2011 with Odd Future touring members Patrick Paige, Christopher Smith, and Tay Walker as a side project to explore different variations of classic soul and R&B music.
