Daniel Lopatin is best known as his recording alias, Oneohtrix Point Never or as it is sometimes styled, OPN. He is an American composer and producer of experimental electronic music who hails from Massachusetts. Today, the artist has shared not one but two brand new visually impressive music videos entitled “The Station” and “We’ll Take It.” Both tracks are ahead of the release of Lopatin’s upcoming EPs, The Station Ep and exclusive We’ll Take It, which comes out July 27th.
Lopatin describes these new songs as “two tales from the excess/bondage cusp.”
The video for “The Station,” was directed and animated by Daylen Seu, who is known for her work with Jeff Witscher on “GAWI,” as well as collaborations with Why Be, Musica Jao, and DDOOGG Experimental – Comics Press. The black and white visuals twist and mold together to convey a story of bondage and pain.
The video for “Well Take It” was directed by longtime OPN collaborators, Nate Boyce and Last Renaissance. It includes elements of characters by Boyce that were also included in live visuals for Oneohtrix Point Never’s acclaimed MYRIAD performances. Here, the visuals are chaotic, and it’s 3-D cartoon imagery that seems to fit right in an after midnight special. It also incorporates imagery from OPN’s recent Myriad installation performances
The Station and We’ll Take It is set to release this Friday, July 27th, via Warp Records. It will be available both digitally and on vinyl 12″ respectively. OPN is currently performing on his Myriad live tour while supporting his latest album, Age Of, which came out this past June and features collaborations from James Blake, Kelsey Lu, and Prurient. Some of his dates include an upcoming appearance at the Los Angeles’ prestigious Disney Concert Hall, Tokyo’s O-East and Paris’ 104 Centquatre. OPN has also added new dates at Red Bull Music Festival Berlin on September 20th and at the hallowed Roundhouse in London on March 8th, 2018. Tickets will be available to purchase when they go on sale from Friday, July 27th.
