Arctic Monkeys Explores Reno in “Tranquility Base Hotel and Casino” Music Video

Indie-rock titans the Arctic Monkeys have released a brand new music video for the title track off of their latest record, the awesome Tranquility Base Hotel and Casino. Directed by Ben Chappell and Aaron Brown and shot mostly in Reno, Nevada, the music video for “Tranquility Base Hotel and Casino” perfectly fits the laid-back groove and slinky basslines of the song.

Visually speaking, the video sees the band members sneaking around in a variety of environments that recall ’70s era disco happenings with some allusions to the legendary Hunter S. Thompson novel Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Many of the shots feature frontman Alex Turner roaming around a variety of casinos while decked out in a lavish white suit or relaxing in a variety of hotel pools. One of the final scenes sees Turner riding an outdated motorized scooter on a desert road outside of Reno, with the camera effects designed to mimic old Super-8 film cameras.

Musically speaking, the song contains plenty of high-flying vocals from Turner, along with some snappy drum and bass grooves, a bit of a departure from the group’s typical indie-rock trappings.

The Arctic Monkeys took a non-traditional route in releasing singles and music videos for Tranquility Base Hotel and Casino, as they did not release a single song or music video before the record dropped in May. This is the second music video to be released, after the stylish “Four Out of Five.”

The band is set to kick off the second leg of their summer tour of North America later this week, and fans can be sure that the group will be pulling out all the stops on these dates. Known for their powerful live performances, and impromptu live cover songs, the Arctic Monkeys are one of the top draws in the rock world right now.
