Scottish indie rock band We Were Promised Jetpacks make their long-awaited return with an announcement of their fourth studio album, The More I Sleep, The Less I Dream, dropping on September 14. Along with their return, the band brought a round of other announcements, including releasing a new single, “Hanging In,” signing on to a new label, Big Scary Monsters, and emerging as a four piece again. After the release of their third album, Unravelling, in 2014, and a few tours in the years following, We Were Promised Jetpacks decided to take a step back and reconsider their next steps. In an interview with Clash, frontman Adam John Thompson said of the time off, “I think it was important for us to think, look, we need to make sure the four of us are happy doing this, and to make sure the shit that we’re selling we like. I think we realized that we had to be happy within ourselves to build up a team to start us going again.” No doubt, fans are excited to see what the new era of music will offer.
Forming as a four piece in Edinburgh, We Were Promised Jetpacks were first winners of their local battle of the bands before going on to open for bands like Frightened Rabbit and Jimmy Eat World and landing a record deal with Fat Cat Records. They put out their debut album, These Four Walls, in 2009 which hit No. 27 on the US Billboard Heatseekers chart. The band followed the success of their first album with their sophomore LP In the Pit of the Stomach in 2011 followed by Unravelling in 2014. Of the newly released single, the band returns to its roots, delivering classic indie rock tunes yet with a refreshed sound, drawing up anticipation for the rest of the album to follow.
Don’t miss We Were Promised Jetpacks as they make their way to Brooklyn this fall, with supporting acts to be announced.
