Ever since its conception in 1998 in Berlin, the Red Bull Music Academy has never failed to leave an impact with incredible artists, and for its 20th anniversary 2018 edition, it seems that Red Bull has pulled out all the stops, with both its world renown Academy portion and the Festival lineup.
Over five weeks throughout September and October, Red Bull Music Festival will feature a ticketed series of concerts, clubs and public talks, all covering a diverse mixture of material, in its home city of Berlin. RBMA, which will be held concurrently, will feature 61 music-makers selected from around the world to come together to collaborate in custom-built studios and attend lectures of artists that have influenced the current musical landscape, all at the legendary East Berlin recording complex Funkhaus.
Most notably, the absolutely phenomenal electronic artists Oneohtrix Point Never and Jlin have been tapped to create new music for the world premiere of the Symphonic Sound System, what is called a new “4D spatial sound system” in partnership with MONOM. Also premiering during the festival is Dutch-Iranian artist Sevdaliza’s “The Great Hope Design” in collaboration with German choreographer Rauf Yasit (a.k.a. RubberLegz) on “an alternative, heart-led reality.”
Some of the talks will be led by the likes of Janelle Monae, whose recently released Dirty Computer blew away critics, and Pusha T, who similarly shattered expectations with his incredible record Daytona.
