The Montreal songsmith, Patrick Watson, returned last year giving fans the memorable and haunting song, “Broken.” Now, Watson is back yet again with another moving piece of music. Today, he unveiled his new song called “Melody Noir” accompanied by a brand new music video.
The video for “Melody Noir” was directed by Watson and fellow Canadian Brigitte Poupart and was shot in Montreal. Filmed in black and white, the clip is sensual and hypnotic blending the women and dancers underneath a waterfall like images.
According to Watson, the video was “inspired by an amazing film called I am Cuba,” adds Watson. “I wanted to make a sensual but surreal dance video, where the main character slowly gets eaten by a void, embodied by the other dancers. The dancers are a wonderful Colombian dance troupe who bring a mix of classical and modern elements to the piece. I hope you enjoy.”
“This song was inspired by an incredible singer from Venezuela, Simon Diaz. I was so inspired by his music I had to write a tune,” explains Watson. “It’s a love song dedicated to the hole inside of you.”

Watson’s latest record, his fifth studio album entitled Love Songs For Robots, was released back in 2015 and was it with success. His standalone single, “Broken,” which he premiered earlier this year, has been featured in many TV series including Grey’s Anatomy, The Good Doctor, and Burden of Truth. Since releasing his album, Watson has performed as part of the cast in the circus show called Rêveurs définitifs. Currently, Patrick and his band (which includes Joe Grass on guitar, Robbie Kuster on drums/percussion, and Mishka Stein on bass) are busy recording their next album.
Watson has also announced a string of new tour dates for the fall and early 2010. The new dates will see Watson perform across Europe and Canada. Watson will set out on his tour beginning July 19th in Quebec and will continue through December 10th of 2018 until taking a break. He will start off the new year with a couple of more shows starting on January 19th until finally wrapping up at the end of the month on January 29th back in Quebec.
