According to their website, Seth and Scott Avett grew up on a small farm in North Carolina where they learnedt to play piano, guitar, and banjo from members of a family living nearby. After playing the local bar room and coffee house circuit, the duo met Rob Crawford in 2001, and they recorded their first album, Country Was, in the family garage. Since then the band have gone on to make nine albums and have received multiple Grammy nominations. Their latest album, True Sadness, released in 2016, received two Grammy Award nominations, was #1 on Billboard’s Top Album Chart and Top Rock Albums Chart and #3 on Billboard’s Top 200 Chart.

Last year saw the release of the Avett Brothers documentary May It Last: A Portrait of The Avett Brothers. Judd Apatow and Michael Bonfiglio directed the critically acclaimed film that followed the band as they wrote True Sadness. The Documentary was released in theaters and debuted on HBO in January.

The Avett Brothers are currently on tour with Gov’t Mule, with several shows planned throughout the U.S. this summer. Recently scheduled to play three nights at the Edgefield McMenamins in Troutdale, Oregon, The Avett Brothers were forced to cancel their Saturday evening performance. After reports surfaced about an armed man at the event, the band decided to cancel the show to protect the safety of everyone at the venue. The Avett Brothers plan to reschedule the cancelled concert as soon as possible.
