Apple Music has forged ahead. Apple Music now has more subscribers in the U.S. than Spotify. The gap is likely to widen by Christmas.
Apple Music now has more paying customers. According to a source, a report detailing the number of subscribers says that Apple Music is the first in the United States, at least among the most on demand music streaming services like Sirius XM Satellite Radio.
There is no official number but the estimated number of subscribers is more than 20 million.
However, these results are not surprising. The Wall Street Journal found that “Apple’s US-based subscriber growth rate was 5% in the U.S., compared to Spotify’s 2%. Using that data, the Journal predicted that Apple Music was ‘on the verge’ of surpassing Spotify.”
Drake’s new album drew more listeners in through Apple Music than Spotify. Apple Music gained 170 Million streams of Drake’s album, Scorpion. Spotify only received about 130 million subscribers that listened. This gap in subscribers may show that Apple is surpassing Spotify. Apple Music has far more engagement with listeners than Spotify does.
Spotify is a Swedish entertainment company founded in 2006 by Daniel Ek and Martin Lorentzon. The system launched two years later in 2008 serving 65 regions in music streaming services.
Apple decided to dominate not only the tech industry but also the music industry. Apple Music is a music and video streaming service where users can stream music onto their mobile device. These services allow subscribers to listen to new music, albums and already curated playlists.
Because of smart phones, listeners are more able to easily access their favorite music and listen anywhere they go.
