Quebec, Canada based rock, punk and metal festival Montebello Rockfest has filed for bankruptcy only days after finishing their 2018 series. The festival which is otherwise known as Amnesia Festival has been bringing the good people of Canada some of the most popular bands in rock for ten years but is reported to be $5 million in debt and the future of the festival remains in question.
Festival spokesperson Gilles Corriveau stated, “It’s a long-term decision, it’s not a short-term decision; they want to find a way to organize everything correctly so that in the years to come, there will be a … Rockfest.” He also went on to state that they plan to pay their debts, offering “The bankruptcy protection gives them the opportunity for a few months to think about something else than paying people. The intention is to pay everybody.”
The 2018 lineup included popular bands such as Prophets of Rage, Weezer, Tenacious D, Godsmack, Five Finger Death Punch, A Day to Remember, Lamb of God, Jimmy Eat World, Sum 41, Stone Temple Pilots and Rancid among many others.
Bands to previously play the festival include Linkin Park, System of a Down, Blink-182, Rise Against, Queens of the Stone Age, Iggy Pop, Motley Crue, At the Drive In, Bad Religion, Dream Theatre, Alice in Chains and The Devil Wears Prada among many more.
The festival has experienced hard times and bad press in the past. In 2016 a Twisted Sister tour blogger named Armadillo Terry called Montebello “the worst festival ever” in a profanity fueled rant on the bands website. “We had nowhere to set up, nowhere to store our gear, nowhere to work. And from what I saw and experienced personally, some of their local crew treated us as if we were just the neighbor’s kids playing air guitar on tennis rackets. In the six years that I have apprenticed with the crew, I have never experienced such a lack of respect,” he writes.
