After a few years away from the stage, Hozier makes his return with a North American tour and promises of new music on the way. The blues singer-songwriter made the announcement last month, claiming that the release of new music will coincide with the tour, which kicks off on 9/15 at the CityFolk Festival in Ottawa. Since the release of his debut and self-titled album, Hozier, in 2014, the multi-instrumentalist has faced wide acclaim. The album featured the Grammy-nominated single, “Take Me to Church” and sent Hozier on to sold out shows and high billing spots at festivals like Bonnaroo, Glastonbury, and Newport Folk Festival.
The Irish musician is known for his eclectic range of musical inspirations, citing the likes of Leonard Cohen, James Joyce’s Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, and even choral performances. Hozier’s blues roots run deep, stemming from his father who was a local blues musician, surrounding Hozier with blues and soul from a young age. His unique approach to his music and lyrics has attracted strong fan appeal. Hozier raised awareness for domestic violence in his video for “Cherry Wine” while his video for “Take Me to Church” sent him viral in 2013 by tackling the issue of violent homophobia toward the LGBTQ community.
