A collaboration between, Sims, Air Credits and ICETEP has produced a concept album due out August 3rd, via Doomtree Records.
Chicago rapper ShowYouSuck and producer Steve Reidell (Hood Internet) make up the duo known as Air Credits. They first met Doomtree rapper Sims at his Minneapolis studio where they collaborated on Air Credits first album, Broadcasted. Air Credits joined Sims on tour as he promoted his 2016 album, More Than Ever, which ICETEP produced. Once the tour ended, the four then began work on Artería Verité in Chicago and Minneapolis.
Rapping on the album is done by Sims and ShowYouSuck while production is handled by Reidell and ICETEP. The album is described in a press release as futuristic rap or music from “next week’s dystopia,” with the lyrics defined as “speaking to our baser needs to find each other, especially when in the shit” backed by the sound of sweeping synths over pulsing low frequencies. The first single called “Hologramme”, was released yesterday.
Sims is a Minneapolis hip-hop artist who has worked both as a member of Doomtree and as a solo artist. He released his third solo album, More Than Ever, in 2016. Sims has earned a reputation as a high energy performer, appearing at Riot Fest, Glastonbury and SXSW.
Minneapolis producer, ICETEP, has worked with Dessa, Sims, and Lazerbeak.
Air Credits is a duo from Chicago who describe their sound as “music from the not so distant future, when the planets water supply has all but ceased, the landscape turning to desert and the desert turning to wasteland. Where radio stations have been transformed into climate-controlled heavily guarded compounds not only to maintain communique with the declining population, but to preserve music, lest it expire from the planet.” Their first album Broadcasted, was released in 2016 followed by Omega Virus in 2017.
Last summer, mxdwn reported that Doomtree alumi, P.O.S, Sims, Paper Tiger and Lazerbeak formed a new group call Shredders. The three-track, self-titled EP was released last year.
