Audiotree Music Festival Announces 2018 Lineup Featuring Father John Misty, Diet Cig and The Regrettes

Audiotree Music Festival will return to Kalamazoo, Michigan for the 6th year in a row. The festival runs Saturday, September 22nd and Sunday, September 23rd at Kalamazoo’s Arcadia Creek Festival Place.

On Thursday, Audiotree, the creators of ATMF, announced the lineup that includes Father John Misty, Local Native, Real Estate, Khruangbin, and more. Ticket prices for the event start at $45 for a one-day ticket and $80 for a two-day ticket.

Kalamazoo natives Michael Johnston and Adam Thurston formed the artist discovery platform called Audiotree in 2011 to promote up-and-coming artists. The Chicago-based Audiotree purchased the city’s historic landmarks Schubas Tavern and Lincoln Hall, in 2015, adding live concert booking, promoting and streaming to the company.

In a press release ATMF/Lincoln Hall’s Talent Buyer, Patrick Van Wagoner stated, “While this year’s festival is very guitar-driven, we’re really excited about the variety we’ve still been able to cover. Attendees will find elements of rock ’n roll, punk, folk, pop, funk and more, while seeing plenty of acts with Audiotree history.”

The largest addition to this year’s fest is The Discovery Stage, presented via a partnership with WMU’s radio station. “Our good friends at the Western Michigan University college radio station WIDR, will be helping to present 12 more bands throughout the weekend,” said Adam Thurston. The new stage will feature local acts from Chicago and Michigan as well as Audiotree alumni.

Festival headliner, Father John Misty, released his 4th studio album, God’s Favorite Customer, last month. As mentioned in previous mxdwn article, Misty is currently touring to support his latest album and will perform at ATMF on Sunday, the 2nd day of the festival.

LA-based punk band, The Regrettes, perform on Saturday of the festival. Named Best New Artist of 2017 by mxdwn, The Regrettes released their debut album Feel Your Feelings Fool! early last year.

Chicago natives and ATMF alumni, Melkbelly take the stage Saturday. The noise-rockers, named as “Band to Watch,” by Stereogum, released Nothing Valley, their first full-length album, last fall.

2017’s festival was the first year the festival ran two days long and included performances by Noname, Lizzo, SuperduperKyle, Twin Peaks and King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard.

While the two-day festival offers a large variety of live music, it also offers food trucks, craft beer and local Kalamazoo vendors. ATMF is an all ages festival with free admission for children under 10 who are accompanied by an adult. According to a press release, more local partners and sponsors are participating than in previous years, making this year’s festival what Thurston describes as “An epic weekend in downtown Kalamazoo!”
