During a recent show in Vienna on Monday, June 24, indie rock band Interpol debuted the song “Now You See Me at Work,” off their upcoming album, Marauder, out August 24, Consequences of Sound reports. The track is the second previewed song off their new record following the performance of “The Rover,” which the band played on Colbert earlier this month.
Interpol formed in 1997 in New York City and have previously released five studio albums including Turn on the Bright Lights (2002), Antics (2004), Our Love to Admire (2007), Interpol (2010), and El Pintor (2014). Marauder marks the band’s sixth studio album and, according to Stereogum, is produced by Dave Friedman, who has previously worked with Flaming Lips and MGMT.
According to NME, during a press conference in Mexico City, the group spoke about how their recent “Turn On the Bright Lights” anniversary tour served as a catalyst for inspiration. “Simply put, it just injected that live energy into the process,” drummer Sam Fogarino said. “It brought that excitement into the writing, and then the recording process.”
During the press conference, drummer Fogarino spoke about the departure of bassist Carlos Dengler in 2010, saying, “On El Pintor, we were riding on the novelty aspect of Paul playing bass, and enjoying what a good job he was doing. But this time, it was a case of ‘you’re the bass player.’ I think now he felt comfortable to explore. He’s not just jumping into save the day, he’s applying himself and his voice as a bassist.”
