Exploded View Announces New Album Obey For September 2018 Release

Exploded View, the post-punk/krautrock influenced band led by political journalist-turned-ambient dub-musician Anika, has announced that they will be releasing their sophomore LP Obey on September 28 via beloved experimental indie label Sacred Bones.

This new album will be a followup to their critically acclaimed self-titled debut recordExploded View showcased the band at it’s rawest, with the entirety of the album being fully-improvised and fully-live, with first takes only, all recorded onto a Tascam 388 8-track. In contrast, the new album will see Exploded View striking a delicate balance between the unrestrained grit of the debut and precise composition and performance.

As was with the debut, Obey was recorded entirely in Mexico City, and showcases the creative impulses of a tightly knit musical chemistry allowed to run wild.

Along with the announcement of the record, the band has unveiled the lead single “Raven Raven,” which demonstrates the group’s strengths admirably, with an appropriately dark, dubby instrumental and atmosphere that plays complement to the ethereal yet conspicuous presence of Anika’s ghostly vocals.

The band commented on the hypnotic single: “Ever felt like someone is watching your every move? Your every twitch, your every sneeze? Stare back into the face of observation. Never give in to external control. You can break this.”
