This August will mark the 41st anniversary of Elvis’s death. What better way to honor “The King” than releasing a posthumous album of gospel music.
Where No One Stands Alone is a groundbreaking new album incorporating original performances with newly-recorded instrumentation and backing vocals. The added vocals are contributed by musicians who at one time performed with Elvis on stage and/or in the studio.
Appearing on the album are Dr. Cissy Houston (Whitney Houston’s mother) from The Sweet Temptations and Darlene Love, who appeared on a television special with Elvis in 1968. Also singing on the album are Terry Blackwood, Armond Morales and Jim Murray of the Imperials, as well as members of his backup group The Stamps.
The album also features Lisa Marie Presley, singing a reimagined duet with her father on the title track. In her notes for the album Lisa Marie wrote, “It was a very powerful and moving experience to sing with my father. The lyrics speak to me and touch my soul. I’m certain that the lyrics spoke to my father in much the same way.”
Where No One Stands Alone contains 14 of Elvis’s favorite gospel pieces which Lisa Marie claims was his “favorite genre”. “He seemed to be at his most passionate and at peace while singing gospel,” she said.
Lisa Marie produced the album along with Joel Weinshanker, and Andy Childs. All three will participate at a special event taking place Saturday, August 11 at the Graceland Soundstage, as part of Elvis Week 2018.
Every August, thousands of fans from around the world descend on Memphis, Tennessee to honor “The King” during Elvis Week. The Candlelight Vigil always starts on the evening of August 15 and lasts through the morning of August 16, the anniversary of Elvis’s death. According to the Graceland website, the Candlelight Vigil draws tens of thousands of people who gather near Graceland to remember the iconic star.
A newly released documentary titled The King, follows film maker, Eugene Jarecki as he takes a journey across America in Presley’s 1963 Rolls-Royce. Jarecki draws comparisons from Presley’s tumultuous career and the current climate of discontent in America.
Elvis Presley’s career had its ups and downs, but he remains one of America’s most beloved and recognizable icons of the past six decades.
