Producer and musician Richard Swift was recently hospitalized and is currently recovering in Tacoma, Washington area hospital. According to Pitchfork, Swift was hospitalized for “life-threatening condition” and since the hospitalization, his family has set up a medical fund to support Swift. They are looking to raise $100,000 and so far they have garnered a little over $45,000 in one day. To make a donation, click here
Swift’s longtime friend Kevin Morby tweeted out his support, saying that “He is the secret weapon to many of too many of your favorite records.” Morby also links to the fund page for fans to support.
Swift has produced many records including Foxygen, Guster, and Elizabeth and the Catapult’s Keepsake. He most recently produced Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats’ Tearing At The Seams. Swift also teamed up with Chrissie Hynde of The Pretenders for their latest record Alone in 2016, the band’s first one since 2008’s Break Up The Concrete.
Swift is a former member of the band the Shins, who released their latest album Heartworms last year. The band released two alternative videos to their song “Name For You.” The first video follows the day in the life of two skateboarders, while the second video features actress Trace Lyssette brings up the topic of the non-binary nature of gender shift. Swift is also a former member of The Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach’s side project the Arcs, with their last album being 2015’s The Arcs Vs. The Inventors Vol. 1. The album featured the legendary keyboardist Dr. John and Los Lobos’ David Hidalgo. Swift previously toured with The Black Keys in 2014, after releasing his last solo album The Atlantic Ocean in 2009.
