The Mountain Goats Dedicate “Song for Sasha Banks” to WWE Wrestler Sasha Banks

The enigmatic indie-rock group, the Mountain Goats, has released a new song as a tribute to WWE wrestler Sasha Banks in the form of “Song for Sasha Banks.” As reported by Pitchfork, the WWE wrestler specifically requested a song from the Mountain Goats, and frontman John Darnielle obliged, crafting an upbeat blend of acoustic guitar strumming and stream of consciousness lyrics that depict Darnielle watching wrestling on television, with a shout out to the legendary WWE star Chris Jericho. The song’s upbeat and catchy vibe serves as a fitting tribute to one of the most well-known female wrestlers in the world at the moment.

Banks, along with Charlotte Flair, was one of the first women to headline a WWE pay-per-view event, and she has been an unabashed fan of the Mountain Goats for quite some time. Of course, Darnielle and company are big wrestling fans after all, as they did release the wrestling-themed album Beat the Champ back in 2015.

For over twenty-five years, Darnielle and the Mountain Goats have been putting out idiosyncratic folk/indie rock that was won them plenty of commercial and critical acclaim, and “Song for Sasha Banks” continues that trend.  Between this new song as well as the band’s recent full-length album Goths and EP Marsh Witch, the band shows no sign of slowing down their prolific output anytime soon. The Mountain Goats have also been given some musical tributes of their own recently, with podcast entitled “I Only Listen to the Mountain Goats” starting up last year, with a different musical act covering a different song from the acclaimed All Hail West Texas album.
