Baroness fans may not have to wait much longer for new music. The band played the Download Festival in Europe and sat down with Austrailia’s Heavy magazine updating fans on new music. In the interview, according to the PRP, band member John Baizley states “It’s mostly recorded, but that doesn’t mean we don’t still have a ton of work to do on it. So it’s back from this tour, straight back to work—in fact, we’re doing a little bit of work whilst on tour… We’re really just racing to the finish line trying to get the record out so we can start introducing new songs to the setlist.” See the interview below.
The band teased about the new album last year, with Baizley saying “We’ve started writing a few tunes that we’re working on. The really cool thing now is that Sebastian and Nick have been in the band long enough that they understand what we do.” This will be the band’s first album since 2015’s Purple, with mxdwn giving the album a “High Fidelity” honor and calling it “a record that is undoubtedly one of the masterpieces of the decade thus far.”
Since the release, the band welcomed a new guitarist, Gina Gleason last year. Gleason replaced former guitarist Pete Adams so Adams could focus more on his home-life.”We are proud to welcome our new guitarist, Gina Gleason, into Baroness…she has worked tirelessly in recent weeks/months, not only learning the specifics of our material, but slowly beginning to stake out her own personal territory within our sound,” said Baizley. Gleason has played with The Smashing Pumpkins, Carlos Sanatana, and Frank Zappa. Prior to playing the guitar, she was known as “The Muse” in a Cirque De Soliel show.
Baizley is hoping the new record will come out later this year. No word yet on the album title.
