Die Antwoord are preparing to release their next and last studio album together. Last year ,they announced their final record would be called The Book of Zef, however, recently the band has revealed in tweets that the new album will be titled 27. The album will be “released unusually over the next year or so” and feature “27 songs and many collaborations with our favourite artists in the world.” The group has released one single from the upcoming album so far,“Love Drug”, which was released on May 5.
Die Antwoord explained that most of the artists are “ kinda unknown and from South Africa” and that the album will be sold in the form of a 10-track soundtrack album for a new feature film. No release date has been set .
Die Antwoord formed in 2008 in South Africa. Their image takes from the South African counterculture movement known as zef and incorporates work by other artists involved in the movement.
Die Antwoord released their debut album $O$ for free online in 2009, and received international attention for their music video “Enter the Ninja.” They also had a short film, Umshini Wam, premiere at SXSW, and appeared in South African director Neill Blomkamp’s film Chappie.
In 2011 they founded their own label, Zef Recordz, and released their second and third studio albums: Ten$Ion in 2012 and Donker Mag (“Dark Power”) in 2014. Their fourth album, Mount Ninji and da Nice Time Kid was released in 2016.’
