Maynard James Keenan, the frontman of the rock band Tool, accepted the Metal Hammer Holden Gods icon Award in a ceremony held Monday, June 11th at the Ingig02 in London, England. According to Loudwire, while there, Keenan went on record promising fans new music is on the way, ostensibly from the band itself.
“I wouldn’t be here without you guys, so thank you very much for all that,” Keenan says in a brief speech. “A lot of work’s being done, a lot of work’s been done. I’ll go on record now saying you’re gonna see some new music next year.”
Tool has been sharing details on the new record throughout the year, giving fans snippets of songs during live performances, jam sessions. The yet untitled new album is supposedly going to have 10 minute long tracks, and fans of the band were able to hear snippets of these songs during the band’s intimate sessions held earlier this year. So there is no doubt new material is coming for hardcore fans, but the wait is becoming unbearable. It is even harder for fans when social media posts by the members of the band revealing studio scenes and details on their new record.
A day before the ceremony took place; the Los Angeles band took to their official Facebook page with a picture inside the studio showing bassist Justin Chancellor’s equipment with the caption, “Justin’s bass setup in the studio. Sounds like he is making great progress recording in ‘a great studio.'”
This past month, Keenan called out his bandmates while onstage during one of Tool’s performances at Northern Invasion regarding completing the new LP. “I’m afraid of bananas and other forms of fruit because eventually you wonderful people are going to run out of fucking patience. So I beg you Danny, Adam, and Justin, please finish your parts so I can finish mine.”
10,000 Days, Tool’s last studio album was released twelve years ago back in 2006. Back in February, Keenan mentioned that “words and melodies 100% done, except for one song.” Guitarist, Adam Jones stated that there was target date that the band will head into the studio and it is reported that the band indeed went into the studio this past March. The same month, Jones had said. It feels like everything is coming along just as it should.
Tool is working with producer Joe Barresi, and Danny Carey, the drummer for the group has finished all the drum tracking for the album. Now, it is just a matter of time until fans can hear the beautiful sound of new material from their favorite rock band.
