Chromatics Shares Stylish Self-Directed Video For “Blue Girl”

Chromatics releases new video for “Blue Girl”, from the new album Dear Tommy, due in the fall. The video is by Chromatics and the director of photography is the Rene Hallen.  This song comes after the release of “Black Walls” also on the upcoming album Dear Tommy.

The dark video begins with a roses and candles in front of a stage mirror. The song opens with 80s type electric guitar and keyboard. With pops of color in red, silver, and blue, the music seems to be like a dream sequence as the singers sings to herself and the drummer plays with roses instead of drum sticks. The video begins and ends with the woman asleep on a pile of roses.

However, the scene can also be seen as a funeral scene with the rose symbolizing the death of romance, and the talking to oneself about “why we say goodbye” and the candles as moments of remembrance.

The “Blue Girl” that the song is referring to is the singer herself. The song seems to be about sadness and the things that women and girls can’t tell other people because they know that they will not understand. The song seems to be about not being able to show emotion as the lyrics repeat in the chorus, “They’ll never understand.”
