Dita Von Teese is truly a unique figure in the realm of pop culture, as a burlesque superstar who has dipped her feet into the worlds of fashion, beauty, books and, most recently, music with her self-titled debut album which she worked on with French singer-songwriter Sebastien Tellier and we reviewed earlier this March.
“I never expected to make an album … Although I’ve recorded music for my shows — like Technicolor musical soundtracks to go with my performances — I’m not a singer,” said Teese about her album in an interview with the San Antonio Current. “I was approached by Sébastien Tellier, who’s an artist I’ve long admired. I kind of felt like I should preface [our conversation] by saying, ‘You know I can’t really sing, right?'”
In a bid of self-aware, well-mannered humor, Von Teese and Tellier have unveiled an incredibly silly yet sensual video for the album’s opening track “Sparkling Rain.” As the song, reminiscent of 80’s pop music, flows under Von Teese’s breathy, sexual vocals, the video accentuates every aspect of the track.
In a series of humors interactions between Von Teese and Tellier, the video takes every opportunity to get a laugh. From a microscopic cell that turns from a heart-shape into something reminiscent of some well-endowed breasts, to Tellier’s very liberal interpretation of the burlesque legend on the canvas.
