For those unfamiliar, Kitten is an indie-power-pop rock band hailing from Los Angeles, California. Forming in 2009. Kitten has gone on to support acts on tour such as No Doubt, Paramore, OK Go, Young the Giant, and Charli XCX.
2010 saw the birth of Kitten with the release of their first EP Sunday School. 2011 featured their second EP which they titled Cut it Out with their third EP coming out the next year. Finally, in 2014, Kitten released their first ever studio album that they self-titled and gifted the world with their minds that is their debut album that summer.
Now, through a recent press release, Kitten has released their highly-awaited EP titled Pink Champage. In support of this EP release, the band has also released a new video for the title track “Pink Champagne.” Check it out below.
The video begins with a loud scream and the 80s-esque psychedlia begins as the band rocks out in slightly BDSM related clothing (also similar to the costume for the final performance of No Vacancy from the classic film School of Rock). The vocals pop in and the listener is transported even more in to the colorful psych world of the 80s. Throughout the brilliantly simple video, the band rocks out together as if an army of of colors and dreams, delivering their best art in the perfect form.
The song ends and we’re back on the street as the singer rips her wig off her head and throws it while walking into the sunset in her retro-space-aged red leather jumpsuit. The entirety of the track may be 3:33 but a world spans out before you, traveling through different neon power-pop wormholes.
When talking about the album, singer Chloe Chaidez says that “we wanted to blend our love of glam and disco with the sensibility of our favorite modern underground pop. It was fun changing up and doing a track centered around a big guitar riff. The lyrics examine vanity and the ugly side of glamour, and we think our video mirrors those sentiments perfectly.”
Couldn’t have said it better myself.
