Gorillaz has announced their festival, Demon Dayz, will come to America on October 20 and will take place at the Pico Rivera Sports Arena & Grounds in Los Angeles, 10 minutes from downtown Los Angeles.
The festival, curated by Gorillaz’ creative directors Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett, and produced by Live Nation, will host a series of special guests and collaborators from within the Gorillaz family and beyond.
In 2017, mxdwn reported the festival’s previous incarnation, which took place June 10, 2017 at the Dreamland Margate vintage fairground, featured guests including De La Soul and Vince Staples.
Demon Dayz is just one piece of Gorillaz media storm, which includes the announcement of the new album The Now Now, due to drop June 29, and a North American tour this October that includes stops in Toronto, Philadelphia and Chicago.
Stereogum reports, on May 31, Albarn spoke with Radio X’s Gordon Smart about the group’s new album. During his interview, the artist revealed a stunning revelation about his near collaboration with deceased icon, Prince: “I was having a drink and a fag. I don’t actually smoke anymore, knocked that one on the head, but if you can’t be who you are… If I’ve invited someone to my studio, they’re my guest, and there aren’t any conditions like that,” Albarn says. “It’s like, I can have a cigarette outside if I needed it. I’d be fucking excited, right? Why the fuck would I not want to fucking go mad if I’m with Prince? I’d rather not do it and not get pissed off with the whole thing. It’s just one of those ‘could have been’… I’ve got a few of those.”
The full line-up for Demon Dayz will be announced June 4, and tickets go on sale June 8.
