Frontman of Faith No More, Dead Cross, etc. Mike Patton, took to the stage in Modena, Italy last Sunday with classical and jazz pianist and composer Uri Caine. They were there for a special set of two performances, dubbed ‘Forgotten Songs. Patton surprised the crowd, revealing one of the songs to be a live cover of “Retrovertigo.” “Retrovertigo” was a track from one of Patton’s former project groups, Mr. Bungle, from the former band’s seminal work California from 1999.
Mr. Bungle was an experimental rock band known for a highly eclectic style, and often played several musical genres within the course of one song. During live shows often members often dressed up, with some hiding their identities.
After the California album, Patton inferred the group was unlikely to perform together ever again, citing personal projects, and group infighting as contributing to the cause.
Patton’s other group, hardcore metal band Dead Cross, has recently released their self-titled EP and the new video for the song ,“My perfect prisoner.” In additionto Patton, the supergroup includes Dave Lombardo (Slayer, Suicidal Tendencies, Misfits), guitarist Mike Crain (Retox, Festival of Dead Deer) and bassist Justin Pearson (The Locust, Retox). The savage track is accompanied by a video full of gore and intense imagery.
As for his other group, Faith No More, Patton has said that the group is essentially on an extended break for the time being, noting that band is not a primary focus. There seem to be no hard feelings among the members, but a feeling that if something were to materialize,it would happen organically. Faith No More’s last last new album was released in 2015.
