Gorillaz and Jack Black Explore Venice Beach in New Video for “Humility” Featuring George Benson

After teasing fans, Damon Albarn and his cartoon crew Gorillaz, are officially back with new album.  The Now Now is an 11-song record that sees the band largely bereft of guest stars, save a lone appearance by Snoop Dogg. Two singles have already been released, “Humility”(feat. George Benson) and “Lake Zurich,” both with accompanying videos.

“Humility,” is a sun-soaked, feel-good video, featuring actor Jack Black frolicking on the beach with a guitar, as Gorillaz frontman 2-D roller-skates amid a motley crew of beach-goers while wearing short-shorts and a smile.

“Lake Zurich,” has a pulsing, synth-pop beat, complimented by a visualiser video that literally has the group’s pictures on rotation inside a hypnotizing spiral.

In an interview with World Record, Damon refers to the album as a “summer record” and says, “It’s pretty much just me singing, very sort of in the world of 2-D but kind of come out and he’s singing very expressively. I feel really good about it. I feel really really good about it.” The interviewer also mentioned Jamie Hewlett, comic book artist and co-creator of the Gorillaz as wanting to “approach kind of his side of the Gorillaz differently this time.” In response, Damon said, “Well he’s really stepped up on this one I have to say. He’s back to his best.  Butt it pains me to say that he has done a really really good job on this. It’s fantastic.”

The band teased the announcement of an album several days ago, with the website TheNowNow.tv. They also revealed new track from the album, performing the song “Hollywood” in Lollapalooza Chile, after mentioning it on social media.

Gorillaz will be releasing their sixth album The Now Now on June 29th, and is available for pre-order now. Check out the videos for “Humility” and “Lake Zurich” below.
