Linkin Park’s Mike Shinoda tackles darkness from the past in his new song, “Running From My Shadow,” off his upcoming album, Post Traumatic, out June 15th.
The track features Grandson and synthesizes smooth hip-hop beats with a rising wave of guitars and emotional vocals. Shinoda released an accompanying video, which, according to Rolling Stone, was directed by Gus Black, and features clips of Shinoda in a vacant parking garage. The song evokes Shinoda’s recent struggles in life and includes lyrics: “There are times when I kick myself/ Say I’m not sick but I can’t get well/ Say I got this while I chase my tail/ As if they can’t tell/ I’m running from shadow.”
Post Traumatic is Shinoda’s first album since the untimely death of bandmate, Chester Bennington, and will include collaborations with K. Flay, blackbear, Machine Gun Kelly, Deftones’ Chino Moreno, and Grandson.
In an interview with Vulture, Shinoda reveals the dark days following Bennington’s death: “When Chester passed, for the first week, I was completely lost at sea. I realized in the middle of the week that there were certain things that were really scary for me that, in the long run, I wasn’t going to be able to avoid. One of those things was listening to [Linkin Park’s] music at all, and another was getting into the studio to write.”
“Running From My Shadow” comes following the release of Post Traumatic tracks “About You,” “Crossing a Line” and “Nothing Makes Sense Anymore.” Check out the new video here:
