Electronic darlings Chromatics announced last week that their long awaited release for the album Dear Tommy is set for a fall 2018 release. They also released the single “Black Walls” to accompany the album news much to their fans’ pleasure. Chromatics creative leader Johnny Jewel has provided fans with even more great news and more music as he has released an hour-long instrumental album called Themes for Television.
The album is more of an emotional atmospheric offering and less of Chromatics’ signature electronic sound. It is nearly one hour of thought provoking progression which could compliment a number of different visual backdrops. It also includes a new version of “Windswept” which was included on the score of the television show Twin Peaks: The Return where Chromatics were seen performing their song “Shadow” during the end of the show’s two hour season premiere.
Jewel has also provided fans with an interpretive video for the track “Red Door” directed by Radka Leitmeritz. “I was about a year deep into recording what would become Windswept when I heard that David was making Season 3,” Jewel explains. “It’s been a year since Chromatics performed at the Roadhouse. With disintegrated memory through the haze of television snow, I wanted to share a glimpse behind the red curtain.”
“The project began as a sonic exploration of the sounds I was hearing in my nightmares,” Jewel says. “I wanted to find my way out of the maze by focusing on beauty over fear — like the way the fractured sunrise looks in a dream.”
The album will also be released as a Special edition 2xLP on Cherry Pie vinyl available May 21st as well. Below is a track listing for Themes For Television.
