SZA Cuddles with Donald Glover in Paradise in “Garden (Say It Like Dat)” Video

Solana Rowe aka SZA is a hip-hop/neo soul artist that has seen huge success the last two years. Since her debut album Ctrl, which has been loved by a majority of the human population all over the world, SZA has been nominated for numerous awards, including the Grammys and Billboard amongst others. And apart from her own musical works in the industry, Rowe has also collaborated with Hip-hop’s biggest such as herself, Kendrick Lamar, Cardi B, Rihanna, and more.

When Ctrl debuted to the public, the album was released as number 3 in the Billboard Top 200 released via RCA Records. As her debut album gained more momentum in popularity around the world, her sales kept rising and, soon, SZA saw herself a certified platinum artist. Now, Rowe has partnered again with a fellow music genius in the new music video for the track “Garden (Say It Like Dat).”

The begins with the crashing of the waves and the dark and cool image of a rocky shore beach. As the camera pans we see SZA lying gracefully in a full white outfit that contrasts the colors of her surroundings. The small sound of a ringing drone slowly, but surely, comes into audible view. SZA begins singing as an R2D2-type synth rolls under her vocals. The scene switches from a beach to a garden and the picture gives off this glow of heaven as if she is in the garden of Eden.

She is not alone though as SZA is sometimes scene in the video cuddling with television, movie, and music dreamboat Donald Glover aka Childish Gambino. He is, however, silent throughout the video as the stage is for SZA and SZA alone. At some point during her garden journey, Rowe happens upon an elderly woman dress in white who also cradles and cuddles with her. As the video comes to a close the video switches between different images of SZA dancing throughout the locations of the video. The screen goes to blackout and the elderly woman’s voice is heard in which she essentially advises us some sage thoughts: stop caring about those who could care less about you.

Jeremy Bacharach: Born in Los Angeles, CA, Jeremy has always been a lover of music. After graduating Hamilton High School with a focus in technical theatre, Jeremy ventured forth to Portland, Oregon so as to study at Lewis and Clark College. After bouncing around majors, he decided to focus on music composition and theory for the purpose of understanding why he loves what he loves. Aside from his major studies in composition, Jeremy also partook in sutdying Jazz Guitar, choir, and piano for the pure joy (and the requirements). Being able to write about what has become the main focus in his life only brings more joy to Jeremy as he is extrmely grateful to be a part of mxdwn!
