The Atlanta based rock band Deerhunter and the experimental pop band Animal Collective surprised fans when they joined forces for an impromptu jam session at New York City’s Le Poisson Rouge on Saturday, May 18th. According to Pitchfork, the two bands as well as their opener, former Women frontman Patrick Flegel, who now performs as Cindy Lee joined in on the fun.
During the second night of performing in the Big Apple, their first being Tuesday (5/15) at NYC’s Elsewhere where the band debuted new songs “Detournement,” “Futurism,” “What Happens To People,” “Element,” “No One’s Sleeping,” and “Death In Midsummer.” They played the same set but this time, they had company. It was during the end of Deerhunter’s set when the band invited some of the members of Animal Collective (who were in the house during the show) for a 20-minute improvisational jam. Avey Tare, Deakin, and Geologist came on stage for the impromptu jam session, everyone except Panda Bear was there to help out Deerhunter end their memorable set.
Deerhunter are currently on the road with their new lineup, and while touring, they are selling a limited edition cassette (remember those?) called The Double Dream of Spring. The band had initially planned to sell the cassettes throughout the tour but have apparently sold all 300 copies at the Elsewhere show. Regarding new, the frontman of Deerhunter, Bradford Cox, revealed recently that the band are working on a new album which is said to be produced by Cate Le Bon and titled Why Hasn’t Everything Already Disappeared?
Though cell phones were banned at the tour’s opener, there were a few fan videos of the second performance at the Le Poisson Rouge which can be viewed below.
