Iron Maiden singer Bruce Dickinson documentary Scream for Me Sarajevo is an incredible story of one heavy metal band smuggled into a war-torn city to play a concert for its townspeople. In 1994, Dickinson and his band Skunkworks arrived in Bosnia to perform a concert during a time when the Bosnian War was raging, and Sarajevo itself was under siege. According to a press release, it reflected “a thriving underground arts community who were living their lives in the shadow of war and making music in the face of devastating loss and the huge impact the concert had on the people of Sarajevo at a time when they thought they had been forgotten by the rest of the world.”
The documentary follows Bruce making an emotional return to Sarajevo, it includes footage of the historic concert and the war itself, as well as recent interviews with Bruce and his bandmates. The film also meets up with those that made it to the show and those who made the show happen.
Scream for Me Sarajevo is set to release via DVD, Blu-ray, and digital formats on June 29. Not only is the film getting a release date but on the same day, the music from the film will be released on CD/double LP via BMG. The soundtrack will comprise music that spans Dickinson’s solo career and will feature rarities “Acoustic Song” (previously only available as a bonus track on 2001 Best Of Special Edition), “Inertia (Live)” (previously only available as a bonus track on the expanded re-release of ‘Skunkworks’ in 2005) and the album closer “Eternal” (previously only available as Japanese bonus tracks on ‘Tyranny Of Souls’). Both the documentary and the soundtrack are available for preorders here.
