The Black Eyed Peas (aka the Peas) have been around for longer than some might think. Since 1992 they have been filling our ears with a tasty stew of their musical styles and they have yet to quit their creation. Now, from a recent press release, it looks like The Black Eyed Peas are at it again with their new single “Ring the Alarm pt.1, pt.2, pt.3.” Not only have they given us new music, but they have also created a music video in support of the new single. See the whole video below. The Peas’ new single has been released under Interscope Records.
The song begins with a golden blaring horn section until vocals telling us to wake up seem to wake a sleeping synthesizer melody. The horns drop out, a bumpin’ percussion loop carries and Will I. AM. raps a heavy anthem. The chorus comes in as a woman’s voice tells her listeners to see the truth of what is going on around them. The chorus exits and Taboo is up at bat as he takes us on a rapper’s journey through synth music. This section of the verse features expert switch-offs between Will and Taboo, which gives a sound reminiscent of Outkast. The chorus joins in once more and leads us into the second part of “Ring the Alarm.”
Apl.de.ap comes into aural view as he starts rapping about the harsh truth of economics and policing in the United States. The woman’s chorus drops her vocals on her listeners as she queues us that the third and final message is about to unfold.
The beat slows, possibly in half time, and brings in more smooth jazz-style beat, bringing in a beautiful throat of a tenor sax. Will sits in a throne and raps in triplets, giving a completely different world to the third part of “Ring the Alarm.” See the revolution starting video before and embark on a journey that only The Black Eyed Peas can take you on.
Also in support of the new single, the Peas have decided to launch a new website in partner with Sweet in which fans can earn digital currency called Sugar. In order to earn Sugar, one must commit social action deeds on behalf of the group.
Essentially, the Peas and Sweet are attempting to create an open global economy where artists, professionals, brands, etc can reward their users for performing social action as well as digital activities that benefit the aforementioned performers and company. Check out the Sweet idea here.
