The Kooks are back in business, with news of a new album and two brand new songs. “No Pressure” and “All The Time” are the first taste of The Kooks’ fifth studio album, Let’s Go Sunshine. The new record is being held up by its promoters as The Kooks’ most mature release to date, pushing their empirically generic mid-2000s UK alt-rock sound forward into more expansive territory.
“This one was about defining who we are, we were asking the questions,” said frontman Luke Pritchard in a press release. “It was a fractured start, we went into the studio in 2015 continuing down the path we set out on our last studio album Listen and discovered it wasn’t what we wanted to make and wasn’t really The Kooks. So we scrapped it and started again.”
In really pushing their UK lineage, the singer declared that he “really went on a mission to write the best songs [he’d] ever written.” He wanted the new album to be their equivalent Rubber Soul, Lola, Definitely Maybe. He further called it the band’s “most exciting album” and promised that it’s going to get fans “dancing.”
