Hopscotch Music Festival returns to downtown Raleigh, North Carolina during the weekend of September 6th – 8th. Described as “America’s (secretly) best festival” and “the premiere experimental and underground festival in America,” is coming back for its ninth year and today, the organizers behind the three-day weekend event have revealed this year’s lineup. One of the festival’s headliners is American rock band Grizzly Bear. The Brooklyn band is heading on tour this fall alongside another rock band Spoon starting in September.
The main stages of Hopscotch will also feature the 1990s alternative-rock singer Liz Phair as well as singer-songwriter Miguel, a Grammy Award winner and the voice behind this year’s Oscar Best Song winner “Remember Me” from the Academy-Award winning animation “Coco.” The 2018 Hopscotch festival will feature The Revolution, the late Prince’s band from the 1984 “Purple Rain.” The band reunited back in 2016 after the singer’s death and has occasionally played since then. The lineup also features The Revolution—yes, as in “Prince and.” The band reunited after The Purple One’s death in 2016 and has been playing occasional shows since then.
The festival features over 120 acts all performing within Raleigh’s downtown. Those playing at this year’s festival include a lot of North Carolina acts including Boulevards, Mipso and Zack Mexico who are taking over the main stage. Other North Carolina performers who will take over playing the nightclub portion of Hopscotch include Sarah Shook, Dex Romweber, Das Drip, Beauty World and Hot at Nights with Nicolay, to name a few.
Tickets for the festival vary from single show passes to 3-Day passes to VIP. Prices for these tickets are $199 for a general admission pass, with VIP packages starting at $299. Those who wish to attend can get passes when they go on sale this Friday, May 18th at 10 a.m here. Both VIP and 3-day passes allow ticket goers entry in all the festival clubs, three City Plaza headlining shows, and three Red Hat Amphitheater headlining shows. Those who have single show passes gain entry into all City Plaza and Red Hat shows. These passes go on sale later this summer but fans are wanting to cross Hopscotch Music Festival off their festival bucket list should know that these passes and tickets are limited so get them when you can.
UPDATE:
Hopscotch Music Festival is getting even more crowded with two additional music acts getting added to its 2018 lineup. Nile Rodgers & Chic, who have released some stellar disco-era hits such as “Le Freak” and “Good Times,” will take the stage this September along with The Flaming Lips, who are replacing Belle & Sebastian. The Scottish band were initially going to play at Hopscotch this year but canceled their festival appearance. This will mark the return for The Flaming Lips at the festival since headlining back in 2011.
