Hit Bargain has released a music video for their song “Capitulate”. This follows the band’s release of Potential Maximizer, and the announcement of a tour from May 12th to July 11th.
According to Brooklyn Vegan, the song talks about deep issues similar to the band’s other songs. These issues include the aim at “the ennui of late stage Capitalism.” When the song was first released, Nora Singh had said that it was written “in response to the real experiences of a friend navigating sex, relationships, and their own emerging queerness in LA”. She continued by saying she “wish for everyone is to find an intersection of pleasure, bodily integrity, and respect—without abuse or shame.”
Directed by Jessica GZ, the video shows a man discovering that he is running away from himself. The video can be watched below. In an interview with Noisey, when asked about how the video represents what Singh had said, she said “We really struggled with finding a way to tackle this subject matter head-on in a balanced way. I really wanted to do something that was nuanced that didn’t come across as an afternoon special or anything that would make it seem sort of trite. It was a true collaboration with the director, Jessica Gonzalez, and with the two actors in the video as well. The ambiguity and sort of dream-like quality of it really lends itself well to the subject matter.”
