When the legendary UK electronic duo Orbital called it quits back in 2014, fans were obviously heartbroken as it seemed that the duo was really throwing in the towel. From the outside, it appeared that the constant grind of recording and touring had totally frayed the duo’s partnership. However, a few years later the duo, which consists of brothers Paul and Phil Hartnoll, returned with a new song “Copenhagen” before disappearing again.
Well now the duo has announced that they will be releasing an album of new material on September 14th, entitled Monsters Exist. Additionally, Orbital has shared the lead single from the record in the form of “Tiny Foldable Cities.” The song channels classic Orbital, combining grooving drum machine beats with plenty of synthesizer squalls, along with lots of interesting sound effects. The music video follows an ariel camera moving through various locations, with plenty of trippy effects and computer-generated graphics thrown in as well.
Over the course of their storied career, Orbital has been one of the most innovative electronic groups in the world, emerging from the underground rave scene in the UK to become global superstars. The group will also be hitting the road again this summer, bringing their high-powered stage show to audiences all over Europe. Unlike most electronic artists, Orbital add in an element of improvisation to their live shows, blending plenty of extra sounds and musical tangents into their overwhelming visual spectacle.
