Day 2 of Shaky Knees arrived with some tried and true rock and roll. A Charleston band with impressive vocals, Stop Light Observations, helped kick things off, but Teenage Wrist stole the glow with some prime lighting and a shaded set beneath the rafters.
Bully provided some guitar shreds, along with Led Zeppelin soundalikes Greta Van Fleet, who brought Shaky Knees back to Woodstock for some fringy heavy rock straight out of the ’70s. Guitar tricks were in full swing, from Greta Van Fleet’s behind the back picking to Manchester Orchestra’s above the head and yoga back bend playing.
Some red lipstick rock and roll then ensued with The Distillers, a set that permeated the field and beyond before The War on Drugs took us to a different plane.
Then, there was the most high-energy set of the entire festival, Matt and Kim.
From inflatable dolls, balloons and confetti to drum tricks as the first fest since Kim’s knee surgery, the joyful hype was alive and flowing. The ground was thumping with happy jumping before Queens of the Stone Age closed down the evening.
