Fan footage captured Cave In members Stephen Brodsky and Adam McGrath as they paid a melancholy tribute to the band’s bassist/vocalist Caleb Scofield, according to Theprp. Scofield, 39, was fatally wounded after crashing into a barrier at a toll booth in Bedford, NH, on March 28, 2018. Scofield, also a member of Old Man Gloom and Zozobra, joined the band in 1998 and is survived by his wife Jennifer and two children Desmond and Sydney.
Cave In successfully meshed their metal roots with a contemporary rock edge and released the studio albums Until Your Heart Stops (1998), Jupiter (2000), Antenna (2003), Perfect Pitch Black (2005) and White Silence (2011). Jupiter, specifically, showcased the bands ability to evolve melodically and received positive reviews.
The rush of fellow artists to pay homage to Scofield has been immense. On April 3, Between the Buried and Me paid tribute to the late Scofield during their Boston set. Profound Lore Label founder Chris Bruni also expressed his sadness: “We are saddened and shocked to hear about the sudden passing of Caleb.” Bruni went onto say Scofield was a really “really great and genuine person.” Check out Brodsky and McGrath pay tribute below.
