For those unfamiliar with the band Cancer Bats, they are a Canadian hardcore punk band tha has been exploding our hearts since early 2004. Consisting of vocalist Liam Cormier, Scott Middleton playing guitar, Jaye Schwarzer on bass, and drummer Mike Peter, they have released six full studio albums as well as six whole extended plays. If there was one band the music world would not expect a surprise album, this is that band.
Aside from their hardcore days, Cancer Bats have been up to much more. Aside from their original punk music, the band also acts from time to time as a Black Sabbath cover band aptly called Bat Sabbath. The tribute band has been so successful that they have earned themselves spots along the festival circuit this year. The Cancer Bats, however, seem to be hard at work with their own music, too.
This past 4/20, and due to all the smoke it may have been easy to miss, the Cancer Bats released a surprise full-length album called The Spark That Move. Released at 12:01am on Friday, the album was released on all digital formats and are also ready to be shipped out as CDs or Vinyl so as to be prepared for a wide-set release.
Frontman Liam Cormier says about the new album: “We were just tired of waiting. We spent all of 2017 working hard on this album, all while playing shows and talking with our fans, who were constantly asking, ‘When can we hear new music?’ We figured why make anyone wait any longer, let’s just drop the entire new album all at once,” Cormier enthused. “I know as a fan, I just want to hear everything right away, let me buy the record right now! We figured, why not release our own music the way we want.”
