RIP: EDM Artist Avicii Dead at 28

Avicii, the DJ and electronic musician best known for his hit single “Wake me Up!” in 2015 has died according to Pitchfork. At press time no known cause of death was released. Also known as Tim Bergling, Avicii was found in Muscat, Oman this afternoon, April 20.

Avicii hit the scene with his Etta James sampling single “Levels” in 2013. The song became a staple in clubs as EDM grew in mainstream popularity. He capitalized on this success with his album True, which was released in 2013 and featured the hit song “Wake Me Up!” with Aloe Blacc.

While he experienced his peak of success just a few years ago he had to retire from live performance due to health issues. According to the Associated Press, the reason for the retirement from live performance was due to acute pancreatitis from excessive drinking. There are no indications at this time that these health problems were related to his death.

Despite this retirement from live performance he continue to create music. Last year saw the release of an EP titled Avīci (01). That album included featured from AlunaGeorge and Cashmere Cat, among others.
