Inventive songster and talented instrumentalist Kaada (otherwise known as John Erik Kaada) will release a new album called Closing Statements on May 25th via Mirakel Recordings. The 50 minutes of piercing melodies took 12 months to record and thematically it goes on a brave exploration through themes of life vs. death.
Kaada is known for using multiple instruments including piano, keyboards, diverse guitars and electronics all while finding a fine blend which makes the listener question which instrument they are actually hearing. This is displayed on his new track “Home In The Dark” which is premiering via Selft-Titled.
“Sometimes I’ve tried to make the acoustic sound electrified and effectuated, and sometimes I’ve tried to make the electrified sound organic. Listening will hopefully be like an ever folding reveal,” Kaada says.
“There is a mysterious aim over the final words of the dying. What does these last words reveal about life, death and consciousness? These words give a glimpse into the individual’s overall feelings and experiences,” Kaada explains.
“The underlying message of the album is that we have to listen to each other. In a modern world where people mostly don’t have the time or interests to get to know one another, we need to be reminded that we need to listen. At least… when somebody is about to say their last words.”
While the 42 year old Norwegian has collaborated with high profile artists such as Faith No More and Mr. Bungle frontman Mike Patton, he has not released a solo album since 2012s Kaada And The Late Bloomers In Concert.
Kaada has also found success scoring films such as the 2014 French blockbuster La Liste de Mes Envies, 2015’s Sunshine Superman (US), and 2017’s Angels Are Made of Light (Canada). He will be touring Closing Statements in the fall of 2018 and into 2019. Listen to “Home In The Dark” below.
