El-P, one half of rap group Run The Jewels, has been announced as the original score composer for the upcoming film Fonzo, a biopic film about Al Capone. The film will be directed by Josh Trank, who also directed Chronicle and Fantastic Four. In a press release from BRON, Trank states “Since I was fourteen years old, El-P’s music has been one of the most important creative influences in my life. There’s literally no greater honor for me than to collaborate with him today and bear witness to this next stage of his artistic journey.”
The film is currently in production in New Orleans and will star Tom Hardy, Linda Cardenelli, Academy Award Nominee Matt Dillion, and Golden Globe Winner Kyle MacLachlan. This isn’t the first film El-P has made music for. He made a track for the critically acclaimed film Baby Driver called “Chase Me.” The film starred Ansel Engort, Jamie Foxx, and Jon Hamm.
As a member of Run The Jewels with Killer Mike, the duo was recently announced as the headliner for Adult Swim’s first ever music festival, taking place October 6-7 at ROW DTLA in Los Angeles, CA and recently made a video to “Oh Mama” featuring Adult Swim’s Rick and Morty.
