Emo godfather Morrissey has once again put his foot in his mouth and this time during an interview with his very own website. He has been no stranger to controversy in the past and on this occasion, he doesn’t spare any of his true feelings or opinions.
He was asked about previously facing accusations of being considered a racist due to his social and political commentary and he responded by saying, “And as far as racism goes, the modern Loony Left seem to forget that Hitler was Left wing! But of course, we are all called racist now, and the word is actually meaningless. It’s just a way of changing the subject. When someone calls you racist, what they are saying is, ‘Hmm, you actually have a point, and I don’t know how to answer it, so perhaps if I distract you by calling you a bigot we’ll both forget how enlightened your comment was.’”
Previously Morrissey had accused publications such as the German outlet Der Spiegel for “twisting his words” but he was proven wrong by audio recordings provided by the international news source; verifying his word for word explanations. He goes on to tell his own website more of his questionable opinions on halal slaughter and what he believes has a direct link to ISIS.
“If you have any concern for animal welfare, for example, you cannot possibly vote for either Conservatives or Labour, because both parties support halal slaughter, which, as we all know, is evil,” he said. “Furthermore, halal slaughter requires certification that can only be given by supporters of ISIS, and yet in England we have halal meat served in hospitals and schools! UK law is pointless!”
Halal slaughter is a method that requires live animals having their throats cut and their blood drained. In order to perform halal slaughter, you must be a Muslim with a certificate of competence from the Food Standards Agency.
Morrissey then went on to take shots at London Mayor Sadiq Khan, who just so happens to be Muslim, by saying, “London is debased. The Mayor of London tells us about ‘Neighborhood policin’ — what is ‘policin’? He tells us London is an ‘amazin’ city. What is ‘amazin?’ This is the Mayor of London! And he cannot talk properly! I saw an interview where he was discussing mental health, and he repeatedly said ‘men’el’… he could not say the words ‘mental health.’ The Mayor of London! Civilisation is over!” It is unlikely that Morrissey will find a way to say he has been misquoted in regards to this interview.
The previously mentioned story by Der Spiegel cited Morrissey defending the sexual misconduct of Hollywood stars such as Kevin Spacey and Harvey Weinstein. The 58 year old former Smiths front man eluded to his belief that too much of the blame is put on the accused and not enough questions are directed at the accusers, “You have to wonder where the boy’s parents were,” Morrissey told reporter Juliane Liebert in the interview, referring to the fourteen-year old Spacey has been accused of harassing. The boy, who was fourteen to Spacey’s twenty-six, must have “had an inkling of what might possibly happen.”
“I mean, I don’t know about you, but in my youth I was never in situations like that. Never,” Said Morrissey.
Given the immeasurable amount of opportunities he will be faced with in the current social stratosphere, only time will tell what Morrissey will say next. In the current social and political climate he has chosen to immerse himself in, all signs point to it being sooner than later.
