YOB Releases Heavy Hitting New Song “The Screen”

Eugene, Oregon doom metal outfit YOB have shared a new song called “The Screen” via Rolling Stone. The track is one of seven that will be included on their eighth album called Our Raw Heart which will be released June 8 on Relapse Records.

Pre-orders for the album are now available which will include several physical bundles that will feature a super deluxe 2XLP boxset which is limited to 100 copies, a white and gold splattered deluxe version which is limited to 300 copies, and a variety of merchandise along with other formats including CD and cassette. Digital downloads will also include an instant download of “The Screen.”

“There was no guarantee that I was going to live long enough to record the album,” said singer and guitarist Mike Scheidt in an interview about the 7-track release. In 2016 Scheidt was diagnosed with Diverticulitis; disease that occurs when pouches, otherwise known as diverticula, form in the wall of the colon and then become inflamed. He underwent a successful surgery in January of 2017 that caused the band to reschedule tour dates.

Our Raw Heart is the follow up to Clearing the Path to Ascend released in 2014. The album was co-produced by Billy Barnett and was mastered by Heba Kadry (The Mars Volta, Diamanda Galas, Slowdive). The album arrives upon much anticipation as Clearing the Path to Ascend received rave reviews. Rolling Stone said, “the music makes perfect bedfellows of volume and beauty, pain and transcendence.”  Stereogum said the four-track album gives fans “a universe unto itself” and Pitchfork said the band was “reshaping the traditionally-forlorn moans and groans of doom into an amorphous roar that, however hellish, shimmers with something resembling hope.”

YOB recently reissued their fifth full-length album, The Great Cessation, in December via Relapse. That album can be streamed via all digital retail outlets and ordered via Relapse.com. “The Screen” is a nine minute reminder of the visionary approach YOB have used to shape the doom metal genre.
