Jim James, the frontman of My Morning Jacket revealed today to Pitchfork that his new album, Uniform Distortion is set to release June 29th via ATO. Along with the album news, James shared a brand new track off the upcoming record, the leading track titled “Just a Fool,” accompanied by a new music video.
James commented on “Just a Fool.”
“Everyone has been called a fool at some point in their lives—sometimes well deserved and other times not at all. I suppose this song is a sarcastic “fuck off” to anyone who ever degrades or makes another person feel a fool when they did not deserve it or just needed help, while at the same time it is an acceptance of the times I HAVE been a fool, and a hope that I can learn from those mistakes or bad ways of living and make a better life… throw down the hammer of the past and march forward in joy and peace to the beat of my own drum. everybody plays the fool… sometimes.”
Jame’s forthcoming LP was self-produced by James, and Kevin Ratterman is James’ third solo album., following his 2016’s Eternally Even – which is his last album of all original material. Uniform Distortion was recorded at Louisville’s La La Land studio and has support from bassist Seth Kauffman (Floating Action) and longtime touring drummer Dave Givan. Additional vocals were provided throughout by Dear Lemon Trees’ Leslie Stevens, Jamie Drake, and Kathleen Grace.
