According to past media and personal notes from Scott Mescudi aka Kid Cudi, it has been a tough couple of years for the popular artist due to mental illness struggles; an unfortunately common struggle for most artists. Recently, according to Pitchfork News, Mescudi has shared a new song titled “The Rage.” Not only is this a brand new track, but it also contains a very special sample from rock legends Smashing Pumpkins’ song “Bullet with Butterfly Wings.” This song has been given the pristine spot as the end-title piece for the new Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s new film Rampage, based off of the titular video game. Check out the new song below.

The song opens with a classic large percussive beat that reminds one of movie soundtracks. Soon, though, Kid Cudi joins in with the vocals that are synonymous with some of music’s biggest hits. As the chorus rolls in, one can hear that this song will be Cudi’s next big hit. To bring this song to the next level, Mescudi’s use of the “Bullet with Butterfly Wings” most recognizable moment brings in an amazing level of excitement. This song is truly a brilliant blend of the sound of Kid Cudi and the Smashing Pumpkins rock and roll.

Mescudi’s most recent album, Passion, Pain & Demon Slayin’, was released in 2016 and brought him out on a tour the following fall. Currently, there has been a rumor swimming around that Kid Cudi is working alongside Yeezy on Kanye’s new album in the isolation of the Wyoming countryside.
