Soulwax Performs at the Fonda Theatre April 19th

Soulwax is an incredibly innovative yet mysterious group of men from Belgium. The band surpasses just their musical talents with their work in film and visual art. The band composed the soundtrack for the 2016 film Belgica, crediting every song on the soundtrack to a different fictional band. Their most recent album From Deewee has a robust layering of sound with simple, repetitive lyrics overlaid to create cohesion and relevance. The album carefully balances both a rock sound with electronic synthesizers that invokes trance like qualities when listening to the album front to back.

In addition to From Deewee, the band also released Close to Paradise and single “Is It Always Binary” all in 2017. Close to Paradise is an EP that is a homage to Ibiza done in collaboration with fashion house LOEWE and sound director Michel Gaubert. The EP is heavily inspired by Ibiza’s dance music heritage and provides an entirely new and separate sound from From Deewee.

Soulwax’s single “Is It Always Binary,” combines the sound of Close to Paradise and From Deewee. The song has a repetitive drum beat inspired by an island sound, overlaid with the lyrics “No One Moves Around” combining the idea of travel but the pessimistic and cynical tone of From DeeWeed.

In all, the performance from Soulwax at the Fonda Theatre on April 19th will bring a layered mix of music, and surely a set with detailed visual design and lighting ques.
