Norwegian black metal group Dimmu Borgir were a pretty big deal when they formed in Norway back in the ’90s, and now they’re set to release their first record in over seven years. Eonian, their tenth studio record, will continue their work as the leaders of symphonic black metal with ten new songs on May 4th. The band has released two singles already, with “Interdimensional Summit” released just last month to 1.3 million views of YouTube.
Now the band has released the second single, “Council of Wolves and Snakes,” a “folkloristic” take on guitarist Silenoz’s “no formula, no absolute” mindset. Shagrath, the band’s lead vocalist, stated that the song “sticks out from the rest of the album,” because it goes “into an experimental direction.” “You can also find a lot of black metal inspiration in the middle section of the song,” he continued, “we are a band that has never been afraid of trying out new directions and artistically this is surely a very interesting and different track.” According to the press release, Eonian deals “with the illusion of time and marks a tribute to both the band’s own past as well as the Norwegian black metal history.”
